For the fourth year, Kinigi (Northern Rwanda) held the KWITA IZINA (baby gorilla naming ceremony) on June 21, 2008. Twenty baby gorillas were born this past year. Linda Friedman was honored to participate in the naming of a baby gorilla during the ceremony. Various activities preceded the day, focusing on development of tourism and conservation in Rwanda.
The ceremony included the participation of Dubai World, Kobil Oil, Serena Hotels, SimTel, United Nations World Food Program, representatives from Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, world conservationists, and international television (CNN, Reuters, Japan Television). The day of the gorilla naming, June 21, was also World Music Day. Gabonese zouk singer, Oliver N'goma was the entertainer for the event. As a result of this celebration, KWITA IZINA is now an important event on the Rwandan calendar. June 2008 View the baby gorillas
“If I had just one hour to spend in all of Africa, it would be with your gorillas here in Rwanda. Without question, visiting with the gorillas is the most inspiring wildlife experience one can have.” ~ Linda Friedman
